The games you worked, already written down.

Eggbeater Ref is a free web beta for water polo referees. Open the sheet for a pool using that pool’s code, claim the games you worked, and the officiating record is already filled in — because the desk was scoring the game anyway. Nothing to install. It is live at eggbeater.app/ref, and we want referees to tell us where it is wrong.

Referees already keep records. A notebook in the bag, a spreadsheet at home, a photo of the score sheet taken before the desk packs up. The information exists — it was written down at the table while the game was going on — but the copy that reaches the referee is usually the one they retype themselves, weeks later, the night before a payment or a certification form is due.

Eggbeater Ref starts from the other end. The desk is already scoring the game: every goal, every foul, every penalty shot, every timeout, each one carrying the clock. The officiating layer of that record is a real account of what happened. We built the referee a door into it.

How it works

1. Open eggbeater.app/ref in any browser. Nothing to install, no app required, and it is free to the referee.
2. Enter the pool code — the same code printed for the team, or the desk code handed out at a tournament.
3. Find the games you officiated and claim them.

That is the whole flow. It runs on a phone, a laptop, whatever is in front of you when you get home.

The sheet fills itself in

A claimed game opens as an officiating sheet with the facts already in place:

• Score by period — how the game actually moved, not just the final.
• Personal fouls by cap number, both teams — with the third foul marked OUT.
• Penalty shots — who took them, and what happened.
• Timeouts — each team’s, and when they were taken.
• Game length — first whistle to last.

None of it is typed by the referee. It is the desk’s record, read back in the shape an official needs it in.

Read-only, on purpose

Eggbeater Ref never writes into a game’s score. The scorer’s record stays the scorer’s — one desk, one account of the game, and no second set of hands able to change a result after the fact. What a referee adds is their own layer: the claim, and the fee, miles and notes they keep for themselves.

Your season, in one ledger

Claimed games stack up. Over a season that becomes a ledger: every game you worked, with a column for the fee and a column for the miles. Export it as CSV for a tax return or an assignor. Print it. It is a record you can hand to somebody.

Sign in and your claims follow you across devices — the tablet at the tournament, the laptop at home. Each game record also carries an officials line: the desk’s sign-off, plus who claimed the game in Eggbeater Ref.

An incident report that starts from the game

The worst moment to face a blank form is right after the game that requires one. Eggbeater Ref can start an incident report pre-filled from the game — the teams, the date, the score, the cap numbers, what the desk logged — so the referee writes the part only the referee can write.

What it deliberately is not

Two things, and both are decisions rather than gaps. It is not a referee mode inside the spectator app: a referee is neutral, and their record should be their own, not a tab inside a page built for one club’s supporters. And it is not something to use on deck during a game — pool rules generally keep phones away from the water, and they should. Eggbeater Ref is for before and after, not during.
