Girls varsity water polo · every champion, every final standing · 2025–2026
The 2026 Battle is in the books: 28 of 29 games decided by 15 teams at Encinal and San Leandro. Here’s who won, who climbed, and the stories the brackets don’t tell.
Computed straight from both years’ results: 7 teams new to the Battle in 2026, 8 from 2025 who didn’t return, and everyone in between. No returning team improved on its 2025 place: the ones with a proven place both years held it or slipped.

The Battle plays sudden-death overtime. The 2025 sheet marked overtime; the 2026 results feed doesn’t mark it, so the years can’t be compared.
Saturday’s pools · 2025 to 2026
Two teams moved up.
Friday’s finish decides which Saturday pool a team plays in: Pool E for the pool winners, down to Pool K. Of the 7 returning teams that played on Saturday both years, Lick-Wilmerding and El Cerrito played a higher pool than the year before, and 5 played the same pool (Washington, Encinal, Alameda in Pool E both years).

2026’s names and scores are the ones on the 2026 event page: the host’s schedule with the results Eggbeater’s scoring feed recorded over the weekend. 2025’s are read from the host’s own schedule sheet. Standings are worked out the same way for both years: a placement game puts its winner at that place and its loser one below, and nothing else places a team. The 2025 sheet has no score for the 13th-place game (Irvington v Albany) or the 15th-place game (El Cerrito v Concord), so those teams are listed in pairs. 2026’s Saturday round robins (Pools J and K) were never given overall places by the host, so they are shown as pools, ranked by wins.
Neither year had an overall seed list. The host seeded each Friday pool 1 to 4, and Saturday’s pools took the pools’ winners, runners-up, thirds and fourths in turn, so a pool seed carries a band of places rather than a rank; the seed chart uses that band and never a made-up 1-to-16 seed. The 2025 sheet marks overtime; the 2026 feed does not. The host’s short names on the 2025 sheet (CV, D. Valley, Lick W, MCath and the like) were matched to schools by hand, and a name that could not be matched with certainty would be kept apart, not merged. One 2025 cell (Gm 21) wrote its score winner-first; the host’s declared winner stands. Gm 31 names its winner but no score, so it places both teams and counts as decided but not scored.
